True first edition was published by HarperCollins UK in 1996 which runs about $2500+ followed by the Bantam first US edition which runs about $650+ Two hardcover volumes housed in a matching slipcase without jacket as issued, typically of FS. Even though this copy is in shrink-wrap, I was guaranteed by the publisher that this is a first-printing copy. I bought three copies at the same time, opened one, and it was a first printing. The edition is still available from the Folio Society but youd be acquiring a later printing copy.

Edition Note: A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin was first published in hardcover in the UK and US in 1996. Some controversy exists regarding which edition appeared first. The UK edition published by HarperCollins features stunning dust jacket artwork by Jim Burns, while the miserable US edition just had an outline of a throne. (Apparently there was alternative artwork for the US edition which was rejected by the publisher and they didnt have time to commission new artwork. Some advance reading copies have the unused artwork.) It has since been reprinted many times by Bantam US in hardcover (but as far as I can tell not in the UK). In 2014, Subterranean Press issued the first signed-limited and illustrated edition of GOT in two-volumes and slipcase which now runs about $1000+. This is the first UK illustrated edition of the book as far as I can tell.

IMPORTANT NOTE: All sales are generally FINAL. I do NOT accept returns because of buyers remorse, "it was a gift but the recipient already had it", or "I found the same book(s) at a better price". I am not selling new items to compete with other retailers. Returns are only accepted because of significant discrepancies regarding edition and/or condition of which I try to be very thorough in researching the edition/printing as well as describing ALL condition issues. So make sure youre 100% positive you desire one of my items before making a purchase.
Shipping: Required priority mail shipping in medium priority mail flat-rate box, $15, $40 international, except Australia which is $95 because of required express shipping. (I do not ship media mail on items costing $100+.) Australian customers, DO NOT buy this book until you send me a message. All parcel shipments to Australian must be express, not priority.

A Word on First Editions: 95% of my offerings are trade editions, and 90% of those are first printings. In general I do NOT sell bookclub editions or cheap reprints like Modern Library except in rare instances which would be explicitly stated as such. In general, I also DO NOT sell x-library copies.
If the book is both a first edition AND a first printing, it will be marked as “first edition” in the Item Specifics under “Special Attributes”, otherwise assume a later printing or a later edition.
NOTE on USPS Shipping: The US Post has graciously increased their rates! I ship on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays sometimes on Friday. I do not ship on Mondays and Saturdays.

All books are bubble-wrapped, and those costing over $50 will be placed in a box. My shipping costs are slightly more than others because I use dust jacket covers, bubble-wrap, and boxes. The extra $1 or so is worth it to protect your book!
FYI, media mail is a discount shipping rate for books and CDs. It is not the same as first class mail, and you cant expect items to arrive in the same time frame. They typically take 1 1/2 to 3 weeks. Items shipped media mail take longer than a letter which is first class.

ATTENTION Canadian and International customers: $66 international priority mail with required tracking. (I now require international tracking on all items over $50) There may be a delay, sometimes an additional 1 to 8 weeks, if your package is inspected by your countrys customs inspectors. I cannot be responsible (and I have no control over) delays due to customs inspections. It is best to find out your countrys policies in this regard.
