Antique Birds Eye Maple & Mother of PearlWriting Box / Slope

This is superbantique Birds Eye maple veneered and Mother of Pearl writing box which dates to circa 1880. This really is ansuperb article, as you can see from the photographs thiswriting box is made from the most exquisiteveneers which have the moststunning grain.

The top has a lovely emblem inlaid to the centre then all the edges are canted and finished with Mother of Pearl which creates a wonderful effect. The front has a brass shield shaped key hole inlaid. The box is complete withits lockbut there is no key.

When the lid is lifted this reveals a letter rack to the inside of the lid which has been created out of satinwood veneers. Then to the other side are two inkwells , a pen slide and two compartments and a writing slab. This then lifts up gain to revel the writing slope which is a deep purple with a tooled gilded edge. Under the writing slope to one side there is a large open compartment then to the other side there are three compartments and three stamp slides again this interior has been created our of lovely satinwood veneers.

The approximate dimensions are:

-13 inches (33 cm) long

-10.5 inches(27 cm) deep

-6.5 inches (16.5 cm) high

AGE:Thewriting box is circa 1880.

CONDITION:

Thewriting box is invery good overall condition as can be seen from the photographsespecially considering its age, just minor knocks / marks commensurate with age and just missing a couple of small pieces of veneer to the rear as can be seen in photograph.There is a split along the fold of leather of the writing slope which is common.Please study photographs carefully as they form part of the description and condition, as what you view is exactly what you will receive.

Overall it is a wonderfulwriting box which would grace any home, so happy.
