MTG Alpha was and still is the shortest print run of Magic. The initial print run was 2.6 million cards and sold out quickly in 1993. The Alpha card set remains the Holy Grail for magic collectors today. Unlike succeeding sets, cards from Alpha have steeply rounded corners and other corner variations. This was reportedly caused by the dullness of the dies being used to cut the cards. In theory there can only be 1,100 complete Alpha sets. This is because that is the number of the lowest printed Alpha card. Alpha cards NM or better are getting harder and harder to find as so many cards were played or discarded in those early years.
