DESCRIPTION

A very scarce pocket companion for the year 1793.

This companion includes a vast selection of essential information for any gentleman, tradesman, or farmer, such at the holidays for the forthcoming year, people in the Kings household, the names of those in the House of Commons, a list of bankers in London, remedies for dog bites, how to cure cheese, and how to get rid of fleas.

Such companions, or almanacks, were popular publications in the eighteenth century. They were intended to be kept in ones pocket, or close to ones person, to be referenced at any time desired.

CONDITION

In a full calf binding with the original wraparound pocket to the fore edge, lacking the additional leather strap to the rear board. Externally, generally smart, with a little light rubbing and a few light marks. A few small puncture marks to the rear board. Front hinge is starting but firm, rear hinge is a little strained. Prior owners ink inscription to the recto of the front free endpaper. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and clean. Front blank and title page are detaching a small amount from the tail. Prior owners ink inscription to the title page.
